Hi Michelle
Where
does the time go? Can you believe it is 2010 and January is already
over? We hope your new year has started off well. Here at
JCF our year has started off full speed ahead! We have already
spoken with over 800 students, provided in-service training to 300
teachers and we are well on our way to Crouchstock '10!
We
would like to keep all of our volunteers, supporters and donors more
informed this year as to what great work the Jacob Crouch Foundation is
doing in our community. We will send regular e-newsletters to let
you know about our accomplishments, upcoming events and other
information we feel may interest you. Please help us keep the
community informed and forward this newsletter on to any friends you
feel would like to stay up to date with our activities and encourage
them to subscribe to our newsletter mailing list. Thank you for
your continued support!
Presentations
Recently
the Jacob Crouch Foundation and its volunteers visited Holy Cross
Church and spoke with over 200 young people about suicide, the warning
signs and intervention tips. We also visited Carencro Middle School
where over 600 students listened attentively as we addressed this
serious subject. The students had great questions, participated
in our conversation and not a sound was heard as the students listened
intently to hear what Mrs. Yvette Foreman Booker had to say as she
talked about her young son she lost to the devastation of
suicide. Thanks to both Holy Cross and Carencro Middle for
providing your youth with the opportunity to hear our message.
JCF held another in-service training for teachers in the Lafayette Parish School system.
The LA State Legislature passed Act 219 in 2008 requiring all certified
teachers to receive two hours of training each year on suicide
prevention. Seven
elementary schools attended this most recent training with 300 teachers
in attendance. Overall this school year we have presented to 13
schools and more than 600 teachers in Lafayette Parish and 350 teachers in Vermilion Parish.
Mardi Gras 2010
Our
heartfelt gratitude goes to King Lacassine XLII of the Krewe of
Attakapas for his generosity this season. King Lacassine has
graciously asked that in lieu of gifts a donation be sent to JCF.
To date, JCF has received over $1600 in donations. We can promise
you, your highness, that the donations given in your name will be used
to educate our community and will help save lives. We hope the
memories of your reign last a lifetime. Thank you for your
support and generosity!

Crouchstock '10
Crouchstock
is quickly approaching. This event continues to be our major
source of funding for our program. Crouchstock is a one day music
fest held in Parc International and will be held on May 1st. This
event takes many individuals to plan, organize and execute. If
you are interested in helping, there are a number of committees you can
participate on; you can help get the word out leading up to the event,
or just volunteer on the big day - whatever works for you.
However you would like to help, please just let us know! We will
be announcing more specific volunteer opportunities in the near future.
