JCF Travels to D.C.
Five representatives of The Jacob Crouch Foundation met with legislatures on Capitol Hill this week. JCF is a recently established nonprofit organization with a mission to provide Acadiana with suicide prevention, awareness and educational programs in the honor of Jacob Crouch. Kenny and Michelle Crouch, Casey and Jeri Lynne Crouch, and Josh Landry traveled to Washington, D.C. on September 6, 2006 for a briefing and luncheon with Congressman Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island. The event was cosponsored by The Jed Foundation as well as SPAN USA (Suicide Prevention Action Network).
Congressman Kennedy has made mental health the most important platform of his political career. "Suicide is the symptom of an untreated illness" said Kennedy, "everyday we, the government and people of the United States, leave people behind enemy lines, the enemy lines of depression, addiction, violence; all things that lead to suicide."
Other guest speakers included Congressman Tom Osborne of Nebraska and Donna Satow, founder of The Jed Foundation, a nationally recognized suicide prevention advocacy organization. The Jacob Crouch Foundation also had private meetings with Congressman Charles Boustany, Jr. of Lafayette and Congressman Bobby Jindal of District 1.
The offices of Louisiana politicians Rodney Alexander, District 5, Charlie Melancon, District 3, William Jefferson, District 2, and Jim McCrery, District 4 were all presented with a packet of information about The Jacob Crouch Foundation as well as its mission for Louisiana.
